Embracing Summer with a Social Media Break

As summer approaches, I've decided to take a plunge and step away from the constant scroll of social media. A few months ago, I felt a strong calling to disconnect and truly immerse myself in the present moment, with my word for 2024 being "revitalization" - a means of new life and vitality .

This decision was not an easy one. I was hesitant and dragging my feet, not wanting to let go of the platforms that had become such an integral part of my routine. However, after much reflection, I knew it was time to prioritize quality time with my family and truly savor the summer.

This year marks the first in 12 years that my husband will be home for the summer due to his new job. With his increased presence, I felt it was the perfect opportunity to step back from social media and fully immerse ourselves in making memories together.

One of the driving factors behind my social media presence was the ability to showcase my creativity. When my husband was away, it provided a creative outlet and a way to feel connected. But this summer, I'm ready to shift my focus away from constant projects and towards simply being present with my family.

Two weeks into my social media hiatus, I've faced an unexpected challenge - a copperhead snake bite! While taking the dogs out just before the start of summer break, I was struck by the small but mighty reptile. After quickly arranging for someone to watch the kids, I drove myself to the hospital and spent 12 hours under the watchful eye of the wonderful nurses.

The recovery process has been slow, with significant swelling, bruising, nausea, and fatigue limiting my physical abilities. For the first few days, I found myself sleeping on the couch or bed, unable to manage the demands of running a household with three young children. Even now, a week and a half later, I still struggle with swelling and the need to pace myself.

But despite this unexpected setback, I remain steadfast in my commitment to this social media break. I may not be able to accomplish as much as I had initially planned, but I'm determined to soak up every moment with my family and find joy in the simple pleasures of summer.

As I look ahead to the rest of the season, my plans include a long-awaited Florida trip, as well as an experiment with trying out two-piece swimsuits (though I admit, I may end up regretting that decision!).

For now, I'm embracing the slower pace, the extra snuggles with my kids, and the opportunity to truly be present. While the social media break may have gotten off to an eventful start, I'm confident that it will ultimately be a rejuvenating experience, allowing me to recharge and fully immerse myself in the magic of summer.
